Here is a link below to an article from the Chronicle of Higher Education that speaks to the differing views colleges have on how they define a families need and what moneys they are willing and able to give to meet that need. Colleges have a finite amount of money and they have to work to build a balance in providing aid to current students and preserving funds for future ones. There are also colleges that feel that it is important for a student to have “skin in the game”.
In addition, does the ability to pay affect a student’s admissions chances? This also varies by school and is something to note and understand when going through the application process. An insightful and informative article that anyone who is going to attend college or the parents of a child who is planning to attend should read.
