Turns out that even though there is a correlation between the specific high school a student attends and their college graduation rate, there is an even stronger correlation between high school GPA and college completion, regardless of the high school they attended. Conversely, the correlation between ACT scores and college completion is weak, even weaker than the specific high school effect on completion.
Conclusion
If what we care about is not just getting in but staying in, helping kids succeed in high school is the single best preparation for success in college.
