The energy and feeling is palpable when I met just a few of the men and women who are dedicating their lives to preserve and protect our country and visiting where their journey began. We are all humbled when we get this opportunity and all gets put into perspective.

• 4,111 undergraduates
• 8:1 student to faculty ratio
• 17% acceptance rate
• Mid 50% SAT 600-710, ACT 29-32
• 94% retention rate – Freshman returning for their sophomore year
• Public university
• NCAA Div I
• 88% of students come from out of state
• Leadership development
• Have a variety of majors, including business, philosophy, systems engineering
• International students can attend by joining their countries foreign service and be recommended
• 50% of graduates go to pilot training, need to be medically qualified and done by ranking
• Primary motivation has to be serving in the Air Force
• Need to have corrective vision surgery if not 20/20 vision
• Summer Seminar summer after junior year in high school to experience the academy and life of being a cadet
• Can rank order the locations you want to go to after graduation
• Looking for well rounded students, need to have a congressional nomination, know the deadlines, typically in the Fall
• Looking for IB, AP and honors courses, being academically rigorous
• Commitment in the students activities, depth and longevity
• Looking for physical warriors, athletes
• Still apply even if you are thinking that you will be disqualified, don’t self eliminate
• To get a congressional nomination it is an application process within itself, application, essays, interview, test scores
• Very much a STEM focused school, will take Calculus, engineering courses
• Difference between the 3 academies is location and job opportunities, look at web sites to view career opportunities
• Very challenging not only with academics but physically, time management…etc.
• Constantly being forced to do things you don’t want to do
