The Process
Consider the college interview process as you would going on a job interview at Starbucks. Competition for highly coveted colleges is just as fierce as for that one great barista job that pays well and comes with benefits. (Just follow me here.)
The Best Candidate
The employer, just like the college admission rep, wants to make sure that the position goes to the best candidate who not only fulfills the school’s admission criteria, but who has taken the initiative to research the institution and demonstrates why they want to be a part of it.
Know Your Stuff
For example, let’s say the Starbucks manager must choose between two very competent and bright applicants. Applicant A has great retail experience. Applicant B also has retail experience but read up on the history of the franchise, and even knows how many variety of lattes are on the menu board; that little bit of information pushed Applicant B over the top.
If you are fortunate to have the opportunity to interview at any of the colleges you are applying to, make sure you stand out in that very crowded field of applicants.
